Three Year Olds Daily Schedule
8:30-9:00: Center Time
Three year old children have full access to scissors, glue, playdoh, puzzles, magazines, cars, everything in the room at this time. This is the only time in our schedule that allows for the child to be creative without specific instruction. Children will never be given a task to do during this exploring time. Music is played very low. Teachers are helping children become independent at getting water for watercolors, cleaning up one station before going to another, etc.
9:00-9:25: Circle Time
Children sit in a circle and go over colors, shapes, dress weather bear, go over days of the week, months of the year, and also have a quick intro to the day’s lesson and activities. We finish circle time with at least 2 up beat dancing songs to get the wiggles out.
9:30-9:45: Letter Time
Children are sitting down at the table and do a work sheet focused on the letter of the week. Markers one day, paint the next, maybe gluing pieces of paper on the letter the next. Children should never have the same type of letter sheet more than one time a week. After letter time, children are given their name pages. Teachers are helping children hold pencils correctly, standing over each child to make sure they are forming letters correctly.
9:45-10:00: Music and Movement
One teacher sings and dances with the children while other gets snack on the table.
10:00-10:15: Snack Time
10:15-10:30: Bible Story Time
One teacher reads aloud the Bible Story from the curriculum on the carpet while the other cleans up snack and gets art projects ready on the table.
10:30-10:45: Lesson Time
Children stay on carpet while teacher teaches the lesson from the curriculum whether it be about Farms with a story book, or the teacher using a puppet friend to talk about the week’s focus. This is extremely important and is done each school day. This is also a good time to go over the week’s letter again and the sound it makes.
10:50-11:15: Art Time
Both teachers help children with an art project directly related to the lesson or the week’s or month’s focus. Children are instructed on using proper amount of glue, using scissors correctly, etc.
11:15-11:45: Free Play
11:45-12:00: Recall Time
Bring children in and sit on carpet. Teachers briefly recall the day’s lesson, letter, Bible focus, and art project.
What A Busy Day!
Changes in the daily schedule
The only time our schedule will differ is on Fridays when we have show and tell. This should be done during Music and Movement directly after letter time. This will help the children to see that the items they brought start with the same letter as they have just learned.
Chapel Time
On Wed mornings, before 10:00. This should cover music and movement for the day.
Library time
Wed. from 10:25-11:00: Free play may have to be shortened to allow all important work to be done for the day. Remember that the children do get a long walk to and from the library on this day.
